Matt Damon reminisced about his friend George Clooney’s past while presenting the Oscar winner with honors from the Kennedy Center.
Rather than highlight Clooney’s contributions to American culture, Damon chose to remind attendees this year of the time the “Descendants” star popped into Richard Kind’s cat litter.
Damon, 52, began speaking on E! My friend George Clooney is said to be the last real movie star. News preview of the 45th Annual Kennedy Center Honors, which will air December 28 on CBS.
“So I thought about what exactly that meant,” Damon went on. Of course, a number of past Kennedy Center honorees have certainly been movie stars in this classic sense—actors of opulence and sophistication: Cary Grant, Henry Fonda, Paul Newman, Gregory Peck.
He added, “Then I think of George, the guy who poops in Richard Kind’s litter box as a joke.”
Kind, 66, was not only present at the award ceremony, but also sat on stage. The “Good Will Hunting” star paid tribute.
Clooney — who welcomed twins with wife Amal in June 2017 — wasn’t shy about detailing a nasty joke he pulled on the “Mad About You” star when the pair were living together as roommates in their early days of acting.
While appearing on “Dennis Miller Live” in 1996, the “Oceans” star, 61, explained that he “takes his place in the cat box” in their bathroom, and is “waiting [Kind] to return home.”
Clooney smiled as he recalled watching his friend grab a paper towel and head to the bathroom.
“Suddenly, you hear, ‘Oh my God– Kitty!said the actor, admitting he’s “very proud” of himself.
