The countdown to Halloween continues. This week’s streaming picks are devoted to contemporary horror movies set on or around Halloween. Post-2000 gifts adopt the spirit of fall or Halloween icons, making it an excellent seasonal watch at this time of year.

anything for jackson – AMC+, goosebumps

Sheila McCarthy and Julian Richings star as Audrey and Henry Walsh, a well-to-do couple grieving the tragic loss of their young grandson. Still in the depths of the denial stage of grief, they resort to Satanism. The couple kidnaps a pregnant woman because of their rituals; They plan to pass the soul of their grandson to her unborn child. Novice practitioners inadvertently open the doors to the world of spirits, turning their home into a house of horror. I am not a serial killer – AMC +

John Wayne Cleaver (Max Records) adheres to a strict treatment regimen and rules to fend off his social and murder impulses. Last night in Soho Takes us back to London’s Soho during the swinging 1960s, with Thomasin McKenzie Starring as a fashion designer, he uncovers a murder from the past. the victim? Anya Taylor Joy Sandy, singer from the 1960s. Director Edgar Wright’s psychological horror film takes place during the fall semester of fashion school, which means Halloween plays a prominent role in at least one scare sequence. Expect lavish production styling and great performance by prospective customers, with a color change once the stealthy second hit arrives.

Little Devil Helper – Screambox (October 25)

The Uncut version of Jeff Lieberman (Pollution, blue sun, just before dawn) The cult hit is making its way to the broadcast in time for Halloween. Dougie is a boy obsessed with a video game that makes him play the devil’s helper. During trick-or-treating, he encounters a person in costume who arranges a corpse, assumes that the person wearing the clothes is the Devil, and asks the Devil to send his sister’s friend to Hell. He then inadvertently becomes a pawn for a serial killer. It’s a dark horror comedy with a body count.

You are not my mother – hollow

writer/director Kate Dolan’s Irish folk horror story revolves around Halloween. The film revolves around a teenage girl whose mother has disappeared, and she returns home later without explanation and with altered behavior. What came home may not be her mother but change. Popular horror film Dolan prefers goosebumps with a precarious mother/daughter relationship and aerial horror than jump scares. Carolyn Bracken delivers an unsettling performance, and Dolan embraces the Halloween vibe.

Bonus: barbaric – HBO Max (October 25)

Non-Halloween Bonus: Zach Cregger’s sleepy hit might not happen on or near Halloween, but it’s the exact kind of thrilling horror you’ll want to watch during Halloween anyway. Tess (Georgina Campbell) arrives at her rental home in Detroit late at night during a downpour. When a man, Keith (Bill Skarsgård), answers the door, strangers realize the place has been booked twice. Out of options, Tess agrees to share space but remains guarded. Tess realizes that while calming Keith’s fears… The danger has just begun.

There is no expectation of the road trip. It will leave you breathless.
