The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said power lines were down near the intersection of Florin Road and Sunrise Street.

Authorities believe no one suffered serious injuries.

Metro Fire and California Highway Patrol both initially responded to the emergency.

SMUD has de-energized the circuit for the power lines and is currently repairing lines in the area.

There is no estimated time for the road to reopen.

Many of those trapped in their cars were freed from the area.

They told KCRA 3 that one of the people trapped had a shattered windshield.

Power outages across Sacramento

About 32,431 SMUD customers across the Sacramento area were without power at the peak of the outage Saturday morning, according to the utility company’s outage map.
