Henry Cavill Says He Was “So Cute” He Played Superman During D.C. Downtime: “There are things that are out of your control.”

Henry Cavill has said that it has always been “very important” to maintaining his relationship with Superman, as the actor was recently able to announce his return to Kryptonian Kal-El. He told Deadline, though, that for a moment, he had to accept that whatever future he might have with his beloved DC character was out of his control.

“As an actor, you have to learn that there are things that are out of your control, no matter what you might think, no matter how you perform, no matter what factor was not under your control in the first place, no matter how the audience feels,” Cavell told Mike Fleming. From Deadline in Conversation as part of Deadline’s The Film That Lit My Fuse video series. “It was something I had to hold very gently in my heart, because I didn’t know if I would ever have the chance to play it again…[But] The opportunity was so important to have it again, and I am very, very fortunate and feel so privileged to have this opportunity now.”

Cavill added that he was initially drawn to Superman because of the beauty he sees in the character. “There is something real, honest, and hopeful, that is the best we all have, and I love it,” he said. “I think it’s the thing that we all really yearn, deep down, deep down, which is the good, everyone else is good, good for each other, helping each other.
