Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 introduce four new weapons to unlock, including the M13B assault rifle.
The new assault rifle is part of the Bruen Ops platform, along with the new BAS-P SMG and Chimera assault rifle arriving mid-season. It has a high rate of fire and low recoil, as well as its own set of basic camouflages that can be used across all weapons in the game.
The good news is that the M13B can be unlocked for free, but it comes with a DMZ Peel Mode challenge.
Here’s how to unlock the M13B Assault Rifle.
How to defeat the Alchemist in the Demilitarized Zone and unlock the M13B Assault Rifle
The M13B is unlocked by defeating an alchemist in the Demilitarized Zone’s radiation zone and extracting his downed weapon.
The radiation area is marked with a yellow circle on the Tac map (press “M”), complete with a hazard symbol for ionizing radiation.
This PvE boss battle is actually rather challenging, and you’ll probably want to tackle it as a complete group of three. You’ll also need to get gas masks for your squad first before the fight starts, because the radiation zone will damage your squad over time.
Gas masks can be found as ground loot in the DMZ, but they are rather rare. Alternatively, it can be purchased for $2,000 at the Buy Station.
Once you have the gas mask, you can either extract from the DMZ or head to the alchemist. The safest option is to exfil first, so that you can add the mask to your stash and come back later. If you die, you lose the mask and have to start over.
You also have to be the first team to defeat the Alchemist, which means another team has already defeated you, depending on how long it took you to secure the masks.
Exfil locations are marked with a blue exit icon, which resembles a figure running toward a door. A helicopter will then arrive to take you away. However, note that the helicopter will not leave until the countdown timer is up, and the AI soldiers will try to stop you from getting out.
The second you drop into the Demilitarized Zone, you can head straight for the Alchemist with your gas mask and primary weapons secured. We recommend finding a vehicle and driving to the danger area to ensure you get there as quickly as possible.
A chemist can be identified by his yellow hazmat suit – if you’ve driven there, running him over with a car is also one of the quickest ways to take him down. Once you defeat him, he will give up his M13B blueprint.
Only the player with the blueprint will receive the weapon, so only one player can extract with the M13B and unlock the weapon.
But if you already have a friend who’s unlocked the gun, you’re in luck. All you have to do is load into the DMZ, have them drop the weapon, and then it explodes while you’re holding it. Alternatively, you can also pick up the weapon from enemy players.
There is currently no path to unlocking the M13B in multiplayer or Warzone 2.0. That may change in the future, but the DMZ is your only path for now.
