As we sadly approach the end of Street Fighter 6’s second beta, those who were able to participate are walking away with special memories from this rare occasion – while others continue to struggle as if there is literally no tomorrow.
Much like we did at the end of the first closed beta test, we went through the top 100 SF6 players online rankings this weekend and determined which characters they ended up using more than our limited cast.
Since there were still the same eight fighters available this time around, it was very easy to make comparisons as to which of them would be most likely to reach the high Diamond and Master rankings in just a few days.
One immediately noticeable change is that Ryu is definitely not the most common higher-ranking character he was last time as his numbers have dropped by half from 22 to 11.
However, Kane has apparently only grown in strength with the red Shoto filling the most positions at 22, meaning that nearly a quarter of those top-ranked players have kept him.
Knowing his series like Ryu, it’s not hard to see why with a bunch of different ways to do some major damage.
It seems the community has recognized just how strong Guile is in these betas since he’s the character that saw the biggest jump in scores going from just 9 to 15.
• Kane – 22
• Kimberly – 18
• Gail – 15
• Luke – 13
• Rio – 11
• Jimmy – 7
• Juri – 7
• Chun Li – 7
This is even more evident when looking at just the top 20 players where six of them ended up being big fans of throwing Sonic Booms.
Although she doesn’t seem to be very popular with the lower ranks, Kimberly is back again by the top performers and is doing it even better now.
Since the character would need to have at least 13 players in the top 100 to perform better than the statistical average, that means Kane, Kimberly, Jill, and Luke players had a good weekend.
This also unfortunately means that Ryu, Jamie, Juri, and Chun-Li fare a bit poorly with the first 3 falling out of the first beta.
This is not to say that the top half of the characters are inherently better or stronger than the bottom 4 because of all the variables players enter into those heights, especially the time invested.
Although the ranks appear to correlate with the beta characters with whom strong players find fast and consistent results by using them in a 3 day period.
And unlike Street Fighter 5, CFN ranks for SF6 have separate League Points for each character the player uses, so it’s easier to see which picks work best for them.
• Gale – 6
• Kane – 5
• Kimberly – 4
• Jimmy – 2
• Luke – 2
• Rio – 1
Note that Chun-Li and Juri did not play in the top twenty.
Capcom will certainly continue to fine-tune the game in SF6 until launch with at least some decisions affected by these beta results, but there’s more that goes into that beyond just the ranks.
At the time of writing at around 5:30pm PST, user passing the handle DiegoV_41 is the highest rated player in the world for the SF6 beta, racking up a whopping 27,000+ LL with Ken as one of the few Master rated users .
The rest of the top 100 had to reach a minimum of 21,800 LP and Diamond rank 3 with flags from around the world.
Looking at those with results this time around, you’ll likely notice some familiar faces like Graham Wolfe, ISDD, DaFeetLee, and even our very own Velociraptor posing with Jamie.
There are still a few hours to change those numbers, so I’m sure there will be a battle for the best ranks to come.
Meanwhile, the rest of us will be in the far corner cabinets testing combos and setups we’ll probably never use at this point.
