Don’t miss the sparkling Taurid meteor shower next week

Over the next week or so, watch the night sky in depth for the possibility of spotting a brilliant bright meteor, there’s a chance Earth will encounter a swarm of unusually large particles capable of generating some really cool shots. Fireballs, the kind that make the unsuspecting public call the police.

Around this time each year, Earth passes through a vast stream of debris left behind by periodic comet Encke. Dusty material associated with this comet hits Earth’s atmosphere at about 19 miles (30 km) per second and burns up, resulting in the Taurid meteor shower.
