Neil Patrick Harris criticized for describing teenage Nick Jonas as ‘good looking’

Neil Patrick Harris has come under fire for calling Nick Jonas “really good looking” as a teenager in recurring comments “totally inappropriate”.

The 49-year-old actor came under fire on social media for a 2015 interview, in which he said he was a fan of Nick, now 30, when the star was still a teenager.

In the interview, Neil, who was 42 at the time, was asked about his “celebrity crush” while appearing on The Wendy Williams Show.

Singer Nick called his crush and talked about finding him “good looking” before “letting it go,” saying it was “a bit of a problem.”

“He was really good looking before he was allowed to think he was good looking,” Neil said after a pause.

“What was somewhat of a problem, you had to kind of wait” for it to be, you know… 19, 20, you’re like: “What’s going on?”

The How I Met Your Mother star admitted that his husband, David Burtka, who married in 2014, was aware of his celebrity crush.

“David knows that, so I guess it’s not a bad thing to say,” he added during the Hot Seat Challenge.

Nick, who rose to fame as a child star on Disney and a third of the Jonas Brothers when he was 12, was 23 when the interview was filmed.

However, Neil’s comments resurfaced were met with a backlash from fans after sharing the interview with TikTok.

Some fans criticized Neal for his “completely inappropriate” and “problematic” comments, while others criticized the audience for their laughter.

A third wrote, “His brothers tried to memorize it with ’19 to 20,’ while a fourth added: ‘Um, it’s okay to say’.”

And another written: ‘Excuse me? Laughing? Awesome.’
