The launch of Overwatch 2 revamped Blizzard’s hero launcher with a new release schedule for seasonal content, promising fans a new hero, map, or game mode at the start of each of the game’s nine-week long seasons. During the Overwatch League 2022 major finals, the developer has officially revealed the latest character that players will be able to obtain when the second season of Overwatch 2: Ramattra, the all-around tank champion who originally appeared in the final scene of the Overwatch Storm Rising event in 2019, kicks off.
While Blizzard hasn’t provided fans with many details about the Ramattra yet, there is some information from the recent preview event that Windows Central was invited to that we can share. Here’s a look at everything we know so far about the Ramattra, including some of his gameplay abilities, his origin story, when he’ll be available in-game, how you’ll be able to unlock him, and more.
Overwatch 2 Ramattra: Release Date
Blizzard has confirmed that Ramattra will be added to the game at the start of Overwatch 2 Season 2, which is currently slated to begin in December 6 2022. At this time, it will be available to unlock and play in Quick Play and Arcade matches, although it will not be usable in competitive ranked play for several weeks.
The reason for this is that the developers want to give free-playing users an extended period of time to unlock new Battle Pass heroes before they can be used in the Competitive. Additionally, this buffering period also allows Blizzard to make balance adjustments to new characters if needed, and hopefully prevent them from feeling too weak or too strong in the definition.
Overwatch 2 Ramattra: Gameplay Abilities
Although Blizzard hasn’t revealed Ramattra’s full set of abilities yet, we know he’ll be a dynamic character with the ability to switch between two different forms that have distinct strengths and weaknesses. In his virtual “Omnic Form”, Ramattra can create barriers to protect his teammates and prick the enemy with long-range attacks using a staff-type weapon. In this case, it will be more effective from a distance.
When he enters the Enemy Form, the Ramatra becomes larger and rockier and gains the ability to fight close-up with armor-piercing punch attacks. Using the Nemesis form well will give Ramatra players plenty of opportunities to effectively smash enemy backlines and competition targets, though Blizzard notes to us that his larger size while using the ability would make him an easier target for high-damage tank penetration abilities and crowd control skills like Sleeping Anna. Similar to how Reinhardt players have to judge correctly when to ‘hold a W’ and when to fall back, knowing when to attack with the Nemesis Form and when to play passively with the Omnic Form will be crucial.
While the developers didn’t tell us anything specific about Ramattra’s ultimate ability, it was hinted to us that it was close range in nature and that it would enable him to take space by force. We anticipate that this will make the ability great for competing targets or controlling tight choke points, although it probably won’t be effective on enemies far from the Ramatra during activity.
While information about Ramattra’s abilities is limited at the moment, Blizzard plans to share more about his collection in the weeks leading up to Season 2 of Overwatch 2.
Overwatch 2 Ramattra: How to unlock
Just like how the Kiriko unlock process worked, players who play for free will need to reach level 55 in the season 2 Overwatch 2 Battle Pass in order to unlock the Ramattra. Battle Pass layers can be unlocked by completing matches and completing gameplay challenges to earn XP, although players can also purchase individual layers directly with Overwatch Coins if desired.
Note that if you choose to purchase the Premium Battle Pass bonus track, you will get instant access to Ramattra. The Premium Battle Pass costs 1,000 Overwatch Coins to purchase, which are worth $10.
Overwatch 2 Ramattra: a cinematic and original story
Below, you’ll find the official original story of Ramattra, which gives fans a look into his background as a former Shambhali monk who eventually formed the Null Sector in response to the many hate crimes committed against the Omanis across the world.
In the game, players can expect multiple interactions between Ramattra and Zenyatta, who Blizzard says are so close that they consider each other another brother. However, as Zenyatta advocates peaceful solutions, Ramattra believes that more violent and forceful methods are needed in order to secure the safety of the nationalist people. As a highly pragmatic leader with full confidence in his convictions, Ramatra is ready to do whatever it takes to protect his people from human prejudices.
Interestingly enough, the Null Sector is a faction that players will face in the PvE campaign missions of Overwatch 2 that will come later in 2023.
Overwatch 2 Ramattra: Voice Actor
The voice actor for Ramatra is Ramon Tikaram, a British stage and screen actor who has played a variety of roles across stage, film, television and video games. Notably, he has appeared in Game of Thrones, Fable III, Dark Souls 3, Subnautica, Elden Ring, and more.
Overwatch 2 is now available on Xbox Series X | S, PS5, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. It can be said that it is one of the Best Xbox Shooters Games Available, and since it’s free to play, it won’t cost you anything to check it out. Alternatively, players can purchase Overwatch 2: Watchpoint Pack which provides access to Season 1’s Premium Battle Pass, 2,000 Overwatch Coins, and a bundle of unique Legendary Skins.
