Jack White mocks the hypocrisy of Elon Musk’s “free speech” after banning Kanye on Twitter

Jack White has He aligns with Elon Musk’s Twitter platform — and has some very clear words about it. On Friday, the “Love Is Blindness” musician shared his thoughts on Musk letting some people (read: Donald Trump, neo-Nazis) and some hate (read: anti-Semitism, white supremacy) on his platform.

“Okay, Elon, how does this ‘freedom of speech’ thing work?” White, who left Twitter last month, wrote on Instagram. “Oh, I see, so you have to choose who gets free speech and who doesn’t then? What kind of liberal crybaby would suspend someone’s free speech? Hmmm….”

White shared screenshots of Kanye West’s suspended account – it happened after the rapper tweeted a swastika and Musk said it violated Twitter’s rule about incitement to violence. White also shared a screenshot of a tweet from Musk saying he won’t allow Alex Jones back on the platform because he’s “ruthless to anyone who would use infant deaths for … fame.”

“Conspiracy liar Alex Jones doesn’t get ‘freedom of speech’ either? I see. So you know these people incite violence and hate but they excel… right?” he tweeted. (White has said before that he left Twitter over Musk’s decision to allow the former president to return to the platform.) “Or is the lying, anti-Semitic Kanye Kanye can’t offer tax breaks to billionaires like the former president could?”

“Or perhaps the controller of ‘freedom of expression’ is being personally insulted?” White continued the rhetorical questions. “It’s nice to watch in real time knowing that all things need to be regulated, whether it’s guns, drugs, alcohol, assembly or speech because of the risk of someone or something being harmed or destroyed. They are sometimes called ‘laws’.”

White continued to taunt Musk, saying the billionaire was likely learning “how damaging it can be when you allow dangerous, unsavory people to say whatever they want on your stage.” White closed comments on his post, and made that decision a point, because he can “regulate the platforms I control.”

Do the right thing Elon and don’t give the other hate mongers a stage, let them go talk [the] town square,” he finished his rant. “No, Twitter is not owned by the government. It is a private company owned by Elon Musk.

White originally explained his decision to leave Twitter in a similarly lengthy Instagram post dedicated to Musk in November, accusing the Tesla owner of giving back a platform to “known liars” like Trump, while calling reinstating Trump’s account a “foolish move.”

common

Musk reinstated Trump’s account after more than 15 million people voted in a Twitter poll, with 51.8% suggesting reinstating the former president’s account. “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” Musk wrote of his decision. (An insider said on Twitter recently Rolling Stone Twitter polls are full of bots.)

“This isn’t ‘freedom of speech’ or ‘what the poll decided’ or whatever nonsense you pretend it is; this is that you’re directly trying to help the fascist get a platform so you can eventually get tax breaks,” White wrote. “I mean, how many billions does it take for you to even risk democracy itself to get it?”
